Orasac and spot called Marićević jaruga is significant, according to tradition, as a place of agreement on the outbreak of the First Serbian Uprising, the election of Karadjordje for his leader and the beginning of insurrections by burning the Turkish Khan in Orašac in 1804. In memory of the events related to the outbreak of the uprising, a church was erected between 1868 and 1870 in Orasac, a memorial school was built in 1932.

The town of Karađorđe

This complex represents a closed historical unit and an authentic example of the architecture of the first half of the 19th century. The preserved part of the complex includes a restored old ‘konak’ (mansion) with a tower and a church with a bell tower. Today the mansion hosts a permanent exhibition of the personal belongings of Karadjordje, leader of the First Serbian Uprising (1804-1813) as well as authentic weapons from that period.

The Endowment of King Petar I

The Endowment of King Petar I encompasses the church of St. George, King Petar’s house and the Royal cellar.

The church features five spectacular domes and a white marble exterior. Interior features stunning mosaic frescoes of sixty Serbian monasteries. There are total 725 compositions and 1,500 figures crafted from 40 million mosaic tiles in 15,000 shades. There are the tombs of Karadjordje and King Peter the I-st in the central part of the church. In the crypt, under the church, 20 other members of the Dynasty rest in eternal peace. Six generations of the Karadjordjevic family have been buried here. King Peter’s House has an area for thematic exhibitions, dedicated to the Karadjordjevic Family or the events at the Endowment Compound.

Royal Cellar

The museum exhibition has some of the bottles from the period of the Winery’s foundation, as well as the equipment that was used in the process of wine bottling. The King’s Winery also contains archive wines, which are certainly the oldest national wines in Serbia.
